It meets international 12Kg punch-test standards and it has a bendable top guard, which can be fitted to the individual user, and an adjustable back strap with a Velcro TM closure. Our Rapier Fencing Jacket (AH-1501), made specifically for this sport, provides torso protection for rapier fencers. The design promotes a Renaissance period appearance but permits free arm movement in both single and two-weapon combat. A left-side zippered closure is used to avoid penetrable openings in the target area. The jacket has a nylon shell with captive cotton fibre fill quilted to prevent padding migration. When ordering please add the chest size to end of the item order code i.e. AH-1501 40 for a size 40 chest.

Fencing in the Renaissance style is rapidly growing in popularity, combining the quickness of light blades with the structure and spirit of the duel. This version of the Fencing Rapier carries the Schlager blade, which is a tough lozenge-section blade based on the German "Mansur" style.

 

The Main Gauche (left-hand dagger) is designed to accompany the SH-1032 and SH-1032B Fencing Rapiers and is fitted with a very flexible button-ended training blade, ideal for the two-weapon fencing styles.

The Practical Rapier utilizes the popular hilt from the SH-1027S Rapier, modified to accommodate our SCA-approved 37" Schlager blade (see Model SH-1099 for the 43" length). The tapered blade form provides superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlagers of the same length, making for a faster sword. The high-carbon steel blade provides good flexibility and is button-tipped for safety.

 

One of the rapidly growing arts within historical fencing societies is that of sabre fencing in the late 19th century Italian style, originating with fencing masters who were employed to train mounted troops in the effective use of military sabre. This particular sabre (SH-2199) is based on an original used by Italian fencing master Salvatore Pecoraro. The hilt design developed by Pecoraro has been reproduced in our fencing sabre SH-2199, with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The high-carbon flex-tempered steel blade closely follows the proportions of the period and is button-tipped for safety. A replacement blade (OH-2264) is available for the Pecoraro Sabre.

 

Guiseppe Radaelli, 19th century Milanese fencer of the northern Italian school, is noted for the development of modern sabre play with a light, narrow-bladed weapon. Radaelli was a teacher of mounted troops and was concerned exclusively with the military use of the sabre. The Radaelli Sabre (SH-2200) is replicated from an original piece with remarkable balance, durability, and swiftness. . The hilt design developed by Radaelli has been reproduced in our fencing sabre SH-2200, with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The high-carbon flex-tempered steel blade closely follows the proportions of the period and is button-tipped for safety. A replacement blade (OH-2264) is available for the Radaelli Sabre.

 

A proponent of the French school of fencing, Alfred Hutton was a British fencing master that did much to modernize sabre technique, as it was fenced at the time. Hutton is acknowledged for breathing new life into the sport of fencing after it had fallen into the category of anachronistic, esoteric activities. The Hutton Sabre (SH-2201) is crafted after an original with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The blade & hilt of the Hutton sabre are closer to the style of the true military sabre. The blade is somewhat shortened & lightened, with a rounded tip for effective training.

Designed for the rapier fencer with a preference for the cup-hilt style that wishes to spar in safety, our Practical Cup-hilt Rapier & Main Gauche fit the bill perfectly. The rapier blade is similar in design to the practical blades for the swept-hilts but the length is adapted for the cup-hilt. The main gauche blade is uniquely styled to maintain the Spanish influence.
